Review Policy

This page explains how Every Day Home selects the products it covers, how our reviews and buying guides are structured, and the criteria we use to rank recommendations.
How we choose products
For every buying guide, we begin with a candidate list of products drawn from major U.S. retailers, consumer testing organizations, and reader-submitted suggestions. We filter the list on three primary criteria:
- Availability in the U.S. market from a reputable retailer
- A minimum threshold of verified customer reviews (typically 500+)
- A published warranty and clear manufacturer support
Ranking criteria
Products are then evaluated and ranked using five weighted factors:
- Performance — how well it does the job it's designed to do, measured against manufacturer claims and third-party test data.
- Value — price relative to comparable alternatives and expected lifespan.
- Reliability — long-term durability patterns from owner reviews, warranty terms, and known failure modes.
- Design and usability — how easy the product is to set up, use, and maintain in a real home.
- Safety — recall history, certifications (UL, ETL, NSF, ENERGY STAR where relevant), and manufacturer safety record.
Badge definitions
- Best Overall — the pick we'd choose for most U.S. households.
- Best Value — the strongest price-to-performance option in the guide.
- Editors' Pick — a product one or more editors have used personally and would buy again.
- Category-specific badges (Best for Alexa, Best No-Subscription, Best for Large Rooms, etc.) — the strongest product for a specific use case within the guide.
What we don't cover
We generally do not cover products from unknown brands with no warranty, no manufacturer support, or a documented pattern of quality issues. We also decline to recommend products that have been subject to a serious safety recall in the past 24 months.
Sample units and returns
We evaluate products we've purchased, products we've owned personally, and manufacturer-provided samples where available. Accepting a sample never obligates us to provide a positive review; sample provenance never influences ranking.
